Matt is the Chair of Minden Gross LLP’s Cannabis Industry Group. Matt provides regulatory and business advice as well as cannabis advocacy to clients across North America who operate, or seek to operate, within the Canadian cannabis industry.
In addition to his regulatory practice, Matt has over a decade of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer and has successfully conducted numerous trials and appeals during the course of his career. Matt has litigated at all levels of court in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Matt is the co-Canadian Editor of the Cannabis Law Journal. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Toronto Lawyers Association and as a member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Provincial Council.
Brian is the Chair of Minden Gross LLP’s Business Law Group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Brian specializes in assisting growth oriented owner-operated cannabis businesses with operations throughout North America by providing advice on day-to-day business matters as well as long-term strategic goals.
Adam’s practice focuses primarily on commercial leasing transactions, including drafting and negotiating retail, office, and industrial leases and ancillary documents. In particular, he has represented landlords with cannabis-related businesses as tenants. Adam is consistently recognized as one of Canada’s leading commercial leasing lawyers by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and represents some of the largest commercial landlords in the country.
Michael acts for landlords and tenants of all sizes, including national landlords and international retailers with locations across North America. In addition to his commercial leasing practice, Michael also represents clients on real estate transactions, franchising, and various other commercial matters. Michael is named as one of Canada’s most frequently recommended property leasing lawyers by Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
Samantha is a tax and business succession planning lawyer for operators and private corporations. Her practice focuses mainly on corporate, estate, and international tax planning. In addition to advising clients on various tax planning strategies, Samantha has particular experience in structuring and setting up cannabis operations in the most tax-efficient manner and developing corporate reorganization strategies to best suit a client’s needs.
Samantha’s clients vary from multi-national corporations to the family business owner/manager. As such, her practice is varied to include tax aspects of corporate finance, corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, as well as comprehensive business succession planning and offshore and international corporate structures.
Spencer is a corporate and regulatory lawyer with considerable experience in the medical cannabis industry. He has been an advisor to private and public companies, cannabis producers, applicants, shareholders, and a variety of businesses supporting the medical cannabis industry. He has worked on a range of matters that include licensing, financing, compliance with the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), and patient privacy regulations, as well as general corporate matters. Spencer has been doing corporate and regulatory work in the cannabis industry since the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) were first rolled out. Spencer takes a “best practices” approach when solving problems, with a view to the long-term success of his clients’ businesses.
Sasha’s work focuses on providing her clients with advice on all aspects of corporate law, including securities, mergers and acquisitions, lending, transactional, and regulatory compliance issues. Sasha also sits on the Board of Directors of Young Women in Law and holds the officer positions of Secretary and Treasurer.
